Sounds like a Book: Memory Soup
MNȚRplusC, 3 Monetăriei Street, Bucharest
8-9 of November, 2025
Following the atmosphere, energy and guiding principles of the seventh edition of the Sounds Like a Book residency program, Memory, an alternative presentation format will take place on November 8th and 9th at MNȚRplusC.
The event will unfold in three parts, creating moments of dialogue, imagination and both collective and individual reflection on the works (audio walk and newspaper) created by the local and international residents: Marianna Asimakopoulou, Teodora Dobrotă, Lu Fraser, Ioana Hogman, Anca Roșu, and Azam Shadpour; as well as on the artistic responses to the question What does a book sound like? by Maria-Diana Anghel, Clara Caradimu, Milica Denković, Alina Dima, Teodora Dobrotă, Lu Fraser, Joshua Le Gallienne, Ioana Hogman, Anya Jasbar, Petra Mueller, Ana Neculicioiu, Lisi Pressl, Anca Roșu, Natalia Sajewicz, Daiana Sargan, Maša Seničić, Azam Shadpour, Luca Sîrbu, Doğa Ünyaylar, Delia Voren
The residency’s public program will start with a hands-on session featuring samples from the audio walk created by this year’s participating artists. Led by Sample as That, the collective behind a series of community events dedicated to sampling practices, the session invites participants to explore sound as a creative tool. Those interested in joining are welcome to register by emailing contact@soundslikeabook.com by November 5th. The event will be held in English. Sample as That will take place on November 8th, from 11:00 to 13:30, followed by a listening session from 15:00 to 16:00.
We’ll continue on the afternoon of November 8th (16:00 – 18:00) with a series of collaborative performative exercises inspired by the residency’s activities and proposed by the participating artists, open for everyone to join. The performative segment will naturally flow into an evening of Chit-Chats from 18:00 to 21:00, a relaxed conversation about things and works, exploring exceptional artistic responses to the question What does a book sound like?; in the company of some of the residency’s artists, guests and friends.
The Sounds Like a Book residency began four editions ago in Șona, a rural area near the town of Făgăraș. It was created with the aim of encouraging artistic research and experimentation with sound and the book: two forms of expression not explored enough in the local context. This year’s edition was developed with the contributions of multimedia artist Andreea Vlăduț and Swiss composer Cyrill Lim, Mihaela Frățilă, a member of the Șona Village Association, filmmaker and village archive initiator Diana Iabrașu, Austrian multimedia artist Lukas Jakob Löcker and Graphomat, an interdisciplinary design studio.
